Jaguar’s Upcoming Electric GT Delayed Until 2026 — But It Might Be Worth the Wait
Jaguar’s big electric comeback is taking a little longer than expected. The brand’s highly anticipated electric grand tourer — expected to be called the Jaguar I-Type — has officially been delayed until 2026, according to Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover, who confirmed the news in an interview with ABC News.
Originally, Jaguar planned to reveal the production version of its Type 00 concept before the end of 2025, with deliveries set to begin shortly after. Now, that reveal has been pushed into 2026, though the first customer deliveries are still expected to happen by the end of that same year.
A New Era for Jaguar
The I-Type will mark the start of Jaguar’s bold rebranding — a complete shift from its current identity toward a modern, all-electric luxury brand. The company unveiled its new direction late last year, complete with an all-new “Jaguar” wordmark, a minimalist “Jr” circular badge, and a sleeker, reworked version of the iconic leaper logo.
The Type 00 concept, which previewed the upcoming four-door GT, grabbed attention immediately — and not just for its futuristic design. Its styling divided fans, with some praising its clean, sculptural lines and others calling it a radical departure from Jaguar’s elegant past. Still, Glover insists the production version will stay true to the concept’s unique look, saying the delay isn’t due to any last-minute design changes.
Why the Wait?
While Jaguar hasn’t given a specific reason for the delay, one possible factor could be the cyberattack that recently disrupted operations at Jaguar Land Rover, shutting down factories and IT systems for about a month. Such a setback could easily slow down production schedules and internal testing.
Even so, Jaguar seems confident that the I-Type’s debut in 2026 won’t push back deliveries too far — meaning customers might still get their cars before the end of that year.
Luxury, Electrified
Glover also confirmed that the new electric grand tourer will start at around $130,000, putting it squarely in the same league as the Porsche Taycan, BMW i7, Audi e-tron GT, and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT EV.
This pricing is a welcome surprise — early rumors suggested the car could cost closer to $200,000, putting it in Rolls-Royce territory. Instead, Jaguar seems focused on taking the fight directly to the high-performance luxury EV segment, rather than going ultra-exclusive.
A Modern Jaguar for a New Generation
The Jaguar I-Type will kick off the brand’s transformation into an electric-only manufacturer by the end of the decade. It’s a huge step for a company known for its heritage, performance, and timeless style — and even though the wait just got a bit longer, excitement remains high.
Jaguar might be taking its time, but if the I-Type delivers on its promise of beauty, performance, and pure electric power, it could be exactly the rebirth the legendary British brand needs.
